Belvedere Garden Flat Revitalization: Blending Light Classical and Nordic Aesthetics in a Practical Layout

Belvedere Garden is a traditional and well-established housing estate in Hong Kong. The core objective of this project was to inject new life into the unit, creating a cozy and modern nest for a young couple. In Hong Kong’s high-priced real estate market where every inch is precious, finding the perfect balance between robust storage solutions and open living space was the design team's top priority.

Layout Reconfiguration: Maximizing Space with a One-Bedroom Conversion

To enhance overall living comfort, the designers significantly reconfigured the original layout.

  • Breaking Down Walls: The original two-bedroom, one-living room layout was combined into a more spacious one-bedroom, one-living room configuration tailored to the couple's lifestyle.
  • Optimizing Circulation: By demolishing specific walls and slightly relocating the bathroom door, the design successfully eliminated the cramped feeling of the old layout, significantly increasing the overall sense of space.
  • Multi-functional Banquette Seating: A built-in banquette seating area (booth) was added to the dining room. This clever addition not only provides comfortable seating but also conceals ample storage space beneath, perfectly balancing aesthetics and functionality.

Visual Aesthetics: A Fusion of Nordic and Light Classical Styles

The homeowners have a strong preference for crisp white and minimalist Nordic styles, while also desiring elements of light classical elegance.

  • Color Palette and Materials: The entire home utilizes warm gray and light wood tones as its foundational palette. This prevents the space from appearing too stark or gloomy, while the consistent use of materials visually expands the spatial boundaries.
  • Furnishings and Hardware: The space is furnished with modern light fixtures and furniture to cultivate a tasteful lifestyle atmosphere. Additionally, the design team sourced premium hardware accessories from the United States and the United Kingdom, adding a refined Western touch to the unit.

Kitchen and Bathroom Design: Marble Textures and Floral Accents

Despite their limited square footage, the kitchen and bathroom display rich design layers through strategic material selection.

  • Visually Expanding the Bathroom: The bathroom walls and floors are fully clad in marble-patterned tiles, paired with light wood-colored base cabinets. The bright tones and reflective surfaces effectively enlarge the visual perception of the small area.
  • Kitchen Highlights: The kitchen primarily features woodgrain laminated panels complemented by decorative floral tiles, adding a touch of freshness and visual interest to the everyday culinary space.

"Intertwining Nordic and light classical styles within a limited space to weave a pure texture of life."
